Allison A Pearce
I am a PhD candidate in the university program in Ecology (UPE) within the Nicholas School of Environment, at Duke University. My professional background is in natural resource management, primarily water resources management. I worked at the National Enironment and Planning Agency and the Water Resources Authority before starting my PhD programme. My research focus is on water quality in coastal watersheds of small island developing states (SIDS). As one of my dissertation chapters, I am using Jamaica as a case study and asking what is the capacity of SIDS to implement integrated water resources management (IWRM) and therefore, to report on the UN's SDG6?
I have several years' experience in water quality assessment and monitoring and my training at the master's level is in ecohydrology, which has provided me with training in water quality assessment, design and optimization. With several years professional experience working with some of the key players in water management and reporting, I am using this knowledge to evaluate where we are in the Caribbean in terms of our reporting capacity and what advancements are required to fill the identified gaps.
