Alyssa Quan
Alyssa Quan is a PhD Candidate in the Integrative Conservation program at the University of Georgia. Her general interests are in aquatic ecology and traditional ecological knowledges. She graduated from UCLA in 2019 with a BS in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution, where she published research on fish behavior in Mo’orea, French Polynesia. Her dissertation focuses on the ecological and cultural intersections of rivercane, in collaboration with researchers from various entities, including the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, USA; the US Department of the Interior agency Southeast Conservation Adaptation Strategy; the Rivercane Restoration Alliance hosted by the University of Alabama, and others. Alyssa pursues nontraditional methods in her academic work to advocate for stronger partnerships with non-Western science in coproduced research.
